Ovako develops high-tech steel solutions for, and in cooperation with, its customers in the bearing, transport and manufacturing industries. Our steel makes our customers’ end products more resilient and extends their useful life, ultimately resulting in smarter, more energy-efficient and more environmentally-friendly products. Our production is based on recycled scrap and includes steel in the form of bar, tube, ring and pre-components. Ovako is represented in more than 30 countries, and has sales offices in Europe, North America and Asia. Ovako’s sales in 2017 amounted to EUR 921 million, and the company had 3,040 employees at year-end.
Engineering steels used in rock drilling tools are subjected to percussive forces. While these stresses do not necessarily cause plastic deformation, they have been shown to negatively affect the reliability of conventional steels by a significantly higher risk of fatigue breakage.
Fatigue properties in steels follow the cleanliness. The goal for Ovako is to provide steels with superior fatigue strength. Ovako offer two levels of clean steel, BQ-Steel® and IQ-steel®.
To makes these each production step is controlled with a high degree of precision to minimize the content of harmful non-metallic inclusions. Ovako works closely with customers to develop these materials, to help the mining and construction industry to implement more sustainable productivity when manufacturing original mining equipment and components for rock drilling applications including:
For processing the rock itself, steels should have greater resistance to abrasion with prolonged surface life and greater work efficiency. Ovako created the first boron steels in the 1960’s and has based the grades on this heritage
The wear resistant WR-Steel® offer superior hardness and consistent composition for grinding media and other wear parts.
They are available as:
Thanks to our decades of experience serving leading manufacturers worldwide, we’re able to tailor the most cost-effective and reliable products for a variety of mining and construction applications. These include all parts used in systems for percussive and rotary drilling as well as PAT holders and mining chains used continuous mining. Hammers and tools in hydraulic breaker, cutters for tunnel boring machines and more. Special parts such as rock bolt material for underground safety are also part of our broad and expanding range of superior steel grades.
The right grade and format for your processing route. Many of our customers rely on near-net shape Ovako products to eliminate unnecessary machining of complex components. Others make use of our M-Steel® capabilities to enhance machining productivity. Whatever your processing route, our expansive range of grades, shapes and heat treatments ensures a nearly limitless variety of economical choices. Always with uniform chemistry, for the repeatable results you need.
When it comes to cost savings, our three mills, in-house R&D and multiple sales organizations worldwide are always at your service. Together they’ve helped leading manufacturers everywhere to develop and select the optimal products, deliver with minimal lead times, and achieve total control of price and performance – from initial melt to final product.
